God Gave Me More Than I Could Bare

It was deafening. Overwhelming. All-consuming.

I could feel it wrap it’s hands around my throat as I tried desperately to scream for help. I was silenced.

That’s kinda what pride does to you. Ya know. Its strips you of your ability to ask for help.

And you didn’t help.

“Honey, the Lord won’t put more on you than you can bare”

Why was I drowning then? Why would he do this? Why could’t I breathe? Why was I slowly suffocating right here in public? Right in front of you.

Guilty. So many times I have proclaimed those words to those around me during their most desperate times. In so many ways, rendering myself not responsible for their shortcomings and in the same breathe throwing on them the weight of all the they were facing.

“Honey, the Lord won’t put more on you than you can bare” a.k.a “Deal with it. Suck it up. We all do.”

I dropped to my knees and in the most powerful way he snatched my soul into conviction.

“With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible.” – Matthew 19:26

No. You cannot complete all of your coursework. No you cannot write your dissertation. No you cannot help Native youth. No. No, my child, you cannot do it alone. I have given you more than you can bare because you are to always rely on me.

“Blessed is the man who trusts in the Lord, whose trust is the Lord. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit.” -Jeremiah 17:5-9

Beware of the ways in which we choose to strip God of his power in our life. He will always give you more than you can bare alone, but with him, all things are possible.

“God, you have a plan for me. Plan’s to prosper and change the world. Lord, I know I cannot face this journey alone. For you are my Rock, my Stronghold and my Refuge. With you and only you will I find my success.”

Keep pushing students. But remember, you can’t do it alone.

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all. The words that I have spoken to you are spirit and life.” -John 6:63
